Will Smith’s dad will cheer on Serena and Venus

Sometimes it pays to have a famous dad, it seems.

A number of high-profile fans will be at San Jose, California’s SAP Center on Sunday when superstar Will Smith joins Venus and Serena Williams for their doubles match against Team Karolina Pliskova and Barbora Strycova.

The actor’s own father — Muhammad Will — will also be in attendance to watch the occasion, and the match marks the latest in a string of iconic cameos the 51-year-old has made on the tennis court.

“I think there’s some soul searching going on in regards to the tennis game,” Smith said earlier this year, referring to the often-criticized sports.

At Wimbledon in 2017, a box filled with celebrities including Sir Paul McCartney and Matt Damon became the talk of the town when they collectively predicted the Williams sisters would take the title, as well as taking photos of the inside of the shot while seated at the front row.

At the Australian Open last year, Smith hung out on the sidelines during Serena’s women’s singles and doubles finals matches.

And earlier this month he sported a T-shirt emblazoned with “My pops is a hottie” alongside women’s doubles winner John Peers — a fellow Australian. The pic went viral.

Joining Smith on Sunday’s team will be tennis legend Lindsay Davenport, who has become a trailblazer in the sport after failing to qualify for the US Open.

Davenport had publicly announced her retirement last year but pulled out of retirement after failing to progress in the qualifying rounds.

Sunday’s match will be Venus and Serena’s first together since the pair won Wimbledon earlier this year and Williams announced earlier this month that she’d given birth to her first child, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., with her fiance Alexis Ohanian.
