Shots Fired During Training Exercise for Airline Security at Atlanta Airport

Police on Tuesday were searching for a man after one shot was fired at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport during a concealed carry permit training exercise at Terminal 3.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports authorities received a call around 9:30 a.m. about an individual with a weapon inside the terminal.

According to officers at the scene, the shot occurred during a training exercise to teach airport employees how to disarm an active shooter, the AJC reported.

A WRDW reporter was also reportedly present during the exercise.

In a statement released after the incident, the Transportation Security Administration said it’s aware of the report and law enforcement officials are handling the situation.

“We stand ready to support law enforcement as they investigate the incident this morning,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in the statement.

Both lanes of Delta Flight 2168 between Atlanta and Kansas City were temporarily closed following the incident.

No passengers were reported injured.

Delta spokesman Michael Thomas told the AJC that the airline was working with airport and law enforcement officials to re-accommodate its customers.
