Spears first made a name for herself with her 1998 breakthrough album “…Baby One More Time,” followed by a string of chart-topping albums. The album “Britney Jean” came out in 2013, months after her 30th birthday. Her next album, the platinum-selling “Glory,” dropped in 2017, and her most recent project, “The Singles Collection,” just dropped.
Born on February 23, 1981, in Kentwood, Louisiana, Spears has since enjoyed a career that almost rivals legendary singer Madonna’s.
She has worked with a number of successful artists, including Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Nelly, and her current boyfriend, 24-year-old Sam Asghari.
In 2016, Spears performed at the London Olympics. At 34, she became the oldest Olympic athlete to compete in five consecutive Summer Games. She was also in attendance as the Paris 2024 Olympics was awarded to France.
Her life wasn’t always so glamorous.
According to a 2011 biography of the singer by Andrew Morton, working on her breakout album, “…Baby One More Time,” Spears signed up for jobs because she didn’t have the money for food and shelter. According to the biography, Spears was about to turn 13 at the time of the album’s release.
Her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, have been her manager and were often criticized for their treatment of the child singer.
Although her “Baby One More Time” debut album was a huge success, Spears later confessed that the fame and fortune were hard to deal with at first.
“It really takes away your childhood — you really do lose yourself in it,” she said in an interview with “Access Hollywood.”
“When I’m driving down the highway and I see a billboard, I just think, ‘How does that happen?’”
Despite her sudden fame, Spears’ family has always supported her decision to pursue a music career.
