A family have been left in “disbelief” after a 60-year-old woman was stabbed to death and her carer arrested.

Jitomisa Kososi, who is originally from Liberia, was discovered at the home in Cardiff earlier this week.

Investigations have been ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death, which police are treating as “suspicious”.

Charged with murder are 67-year-old Anthony Wood and a man who cannot be named.

Ms Kososi’s brother, Augustine Roberts, told BBC Wales the family is devastated by the death.

He said his sister, who emigrated from Liberia several years ago, had lived at the property in the Dolgellau area of Cardiff with her carer.

“We are in total disbelief that something like this has happened to such a beautiful person. My sister has been finding accommodation for the next few months when she is due to move into a home closer to her son,” he said.

“She had taken the decision to be an independent woman in her own home.”

‘A vulnerable person’

Ms Kososi’s family said she had a great deal of help from charities and had been living in a city house, which housed her carer as well as her son.

“In the weeks leading up to her death, we noticed that she had changed and that she was suddenly much more withdrawn, her appetite had faded and she had lost so much weight,” said Ms Roberts.

“This was extremely unsettling for us as we had to decide what to do as a family. We could no longer cope with the burden of caring for her and her deteriorated health.”

She added his sister “was a vulnerable person who needed constant help, especially if she became sick”.

“We had every reason to believe that Tony was her carer and that she liked and trusted him.”

Mr Roberts said police were called to the house on White Rock Way and after an investigation, Mr Wood and the carer were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Mr Wood has been charged with murder and possession of a knife with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

The carer is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
